How To: Dress Fashionable when you're on the Go

Hey Fashloves,

As most of you all may know I am currently attending College which basically is the equivalent to me being busy almost 24/7. Between attending classes, being apart of student organizations, and attending events; I find my myself almost always on the go. Despite how hectic my schedule can get I always try to keep myself looking fashion forward but I understand that can be difficult for some out there at times (who has time for clothes when work has to get done?!) If you can relate with me, then this post is for you! I'll be providing you with a few tips that can be utilized when choosing a fashionable outfit for an eventful day.

Tip #1: Choose trendy light weight pieces

Being a girl who is on the go, I constantly find myself moving from one location to another frequently. When moving around a lot it is best to wear lighter weight pieces because no one wants clothing weighing them down when handling business. For this look I wore a long line black vest which didn't add any unnecessary bulk but still contributed a trendy touch. My ribbed turtle neck was also very light and allowed air to circulate so I wouldn't sweat while on the move in New York City.

Tip #2: Opt for your cute pain free shoes

Initially when I put together this look I planned on wearing black high heeled sandals. I immediately knew that was going to be a no-go because I was in the Big Apple and everyone knows that means walking -and tons of it. My Nike Free Runs were the perfect alternative and actually gave my look a new vibe that I preferred. To all my ladies who are comfortable wearing high heels on the go I salute you because I personally just can't do it! For those of you who are like me (strongly believe that comfort is key) then be sure to base your outfit around a comfortable shoe in your collection. Sneakers such as Nike Roshes' and Adidas are actually really trending right now and are seemingly making their way to becoming the new standard flat!

If you feel like sneakers or flat won't do your outfit justice go for a cute low chunky heel or booties such as the shoes I wore here

Tip # 3: Choose a season friendly color palette that helps keep you calm

When being on the go there can be times when you become overwhelmed, stressed, or just extremely occupied. Studies show your color choice of your clothing actually can be linked to emotions as well. Research has also shown that different colors have psychological, emotional and physical effects on us. The Huffington Post has an article entitled, "How Color Affects Our Mood" which goes into detail about how colors indirectly influence how we feel and gave a few colors that can help change your frame of mind.

In regards to my look, my green top helped put me in a more relaxed and refreshed mood. My white pants helped elude clarity and freshness. Finally, my black vest showed a bit of power and elegance. Be sure to choose calm colors while on the move that are relevant within the current season, it really helps!

Tip #4 Accessorizing is your best friend

Whether its jewelry, a cute fedora, or a light weight scarf, accessorizing is the perfect way to take your outfit up a notch if you decide to not put much effort into your look. I didn't accessorize as much with my outfit but I was sure to add a gold bracelet and large gold studs to add an extra touch to my look. Another great way to accessorize is through your make up. Lipstick is the perfect way to add spice to your look and only takes 10 seconds to apply!

Hope these tips will help you choose the perfect on the go friendly outfit for your day! If you ever have any specific fashion related questions please feel free to contact me here and I'll be sure to either speak to you directly or create a blog post answering your question.

Hey Fashloves!

My favorite fashion season has finally come and I am so excited to explore the latest Fall trends. From light wash 70s flare denim to leather mules, this season has been packed with hot pieces that I am definitely here for. One of my favorite trends by far is actually what I'll be speaking to you all about today - Suede Culottes.

Culottes first made their appearance this past Spring and hasn't departed since. Suede has always been one of my favored fabrics so when I stumbled upon the combination of  suede and culottes I knew I had to get my hands on one of them. Personally I believe the silhouette of the culotte is very fashion forward and I've even seen a few that are cut so wide that they resemble a skirt (adore them!).

I purchased my pair from H&M a few months ago during their summer sale for only $7 (great steal!).  Take a look below to see how I styled this seasons It pants:

I wore this look this past weekend while I was in New York City for College Fashion Week (click here to check out my experience at CFW). The culottes were perfect for the occasion because they allowed me to move throughout the venue with no problem because of their light and airy shape. I paired it with a black turtle neck to keep the outfit sleek and simple. While I would have preferred to wear long boots I went with my favorite chunky black heels. My pop of print and color was through my gorgeous clutch that was gifted to me by my best friend Dana while she was studying abroad in Spain. I absolutely love the detailing and can't wait to pair it with another look!

Let me know your thoughts on this look and whether or not you would rock culottes this Fall season!

3 Reasons why College Fashion Week NYC rocked!

Hey Fashloves,

This past weekend I was given the opportunity to attend College Fashion Week hosted by Her Campus Media in New York City and definitely had a blast! College Fashion Week (CFW) has served as a must attend event for Collegiette's all around the United States who have a love for fashion and being exposed to awesome companies such as Milani and People StyleWatch.

Collegiette: a college woman who is on top of her game – strategically career-minded, distinctly fashionable, socially connected, academically driven, and smartly health-conscious, who endeavors to get the most out of her college experience on every level.

When I first arrived to the venue I was in awe of how many ladies were in line for the show. It was great to see so many fellow fashionable women who were equally excited to enter the venue as I was. Upon entering I was greeted by friendly staff, given a rad goody bag, and was able to interact with the various sponsors. I'll give you a recap of the event below and provide you with reasons as to why CFW New York rocked (You'll probably start looking out for details for next years show after reading this- trust me!)

1. It was very interactive

College Fashion Week has to go down in the books as one of the most interactive fashion shows that I've ever been to. European Wax Center was in attendance providing complementary eyebrow shaping at their Browfection Bar, Jamberry had the cutest DIY nail wraps, and SOREL's Photo booth was a ton of fun! The activation's added a different and innovative alternative to your standard fashion show.

One brand that definitely caught my eye while browsing the activation's was Monthly Gift. Monthly Gift is an upcoming company that provides you with a box of goodies (including chocolate) around that "time of the month." Definitely keep an eye out for their launch ladies & and click here to visit their site for more information!

2. It was relatable

Columbia SHARP
So let me give you guys some quick background information about Her Campus. Her Campus is known as the top community for college women. All of the content on the sites are written by college journalists focusing on topics such as fashion, health, love and career. It was founded by 3 Harvard graduates (Stephanie Kaplan '10, Windsor Hanger '10, and Annie Wang '11) during their undergraduate years and has blossomed into a company that has been very impactful. Windsor along with an editor from People StyleWatch were the hosts for the night and gave the audience insightful fashion and beauty tips that could be utilized every day.

The models were of all shapes and sizes which allowed the viewers to truly relate because the show was very realistic.  There were also two performers (Teenear and Columbia Sharp) who are within the same millennial age group which got the crowd really excited. It was empowering to see women my age strutting down the runway and being able to attend an event that was tailored to my age group.

3. Fashion was on FLEEK!

So let me get to the really good stuff. All of the looks on the runway were perfectly styled with the clothing being provided by Forever 21 and the shoes by SOREL. The show was divided into different segments filled with looks that are trending for the fall season. These outfits were ideal for class, date nights, and weekend outings. Here are my top fave looks for the night:

These looks had bold pieces which are perfect for my girls out there who love to stand out amongst a crowd. Here are a few tips I learned:

1. If heading to class instead of grabbing those comfy sweats opt for denim pieces. Don't limit the denim just to pants but instead try a denim dress or top.
2. For weekend looks try to add in trendy pieces such as 70s flare jeans or a printed cape.
3. When choosing a date night outfit definitely dress to impress. Try mixing casual pieces with a dressier piece to add a touch of glam.
4. Trying to figure out the perfect party look? Be sure to go bold and bend the rules by mixing different trends, prints, and textures.

I had a blast serving as Press for College Fashion Week New York City 2015 and hope you all enjoyed this post. Be sure to look out for next years show and support Her Campus!
