The Minimalist Look for Less with Visions by Kay

Hey Fashloves!

As I grow in my fashion journey, I am slowly moving towards a more minimalist wardrobe and I am currently loving it! Not only is it easy to pair looks together because I'm working with a neutral palette (extremely versatile) but it is also very aesthetically pleasing. When looking for minimalist outfit inspirations I sometimes run into the issue of how much each piece can actually cost within those looks. Building a new wardrobe from the ground up isn't the easiest - especially if you are on a budget (the college struggle is real guys!).

Minimalist Fashion: Wardrobe that is comprised of basic pieces in neural shades (black, white, nude, gray, etc). Minimalists follow the mantra: less is more.

Want to learn how to get a fab minimalist look for less? Then you are at the right place! Today Kay Thomas, the stylist behind the booming VisionsbyKay social media pages, will be showing you all looks she created that aren't worth an arm and a leg.

Right now I'm in a stage where minimalism is EVERYTHING. I can wear neutral/earth tone colors and always be in style regardless of what season it is. Neutral colors being white, pink, nude, olive, grey and black. These colors can be paired with other neutral as well as other colors.

1. Emphasize your accessory

I wanted to emphasize having an accessory to make a basic outfit stand out. Being that winter is right around the corner, I wanted to give some fur slayage. I got this fur from Amazon, not sure how much it costs because it was a gift lol but I'm in love with it. So in love that I don’t think I’ll actually wear it unless I go somewhere extra special. The midi skirt is from Cotton On and heels are from Forever21.

2. Add a touch of chic by wearing a coat

In this photo I wanted to show how you can classy up a basic look by adding a coat. This is a light waterfall coat from a British label. The bralet is from Forever21, jeans are Levi’s thrifted from the Salvation Army and heels are Vince Camuto from Macy’s.

3. Versatility is key

I wanted to emphasize versatility. This v-neck is from Forever21 that I rolled into a crop top to make it a little more girly and paired them with my favorite pair of black heels. People think that you always have to wear dressy pieces with skirts but that’s not the case at all, as I paired this midi skirt with a pair of Adidas to dress it down.

Kay recommends getting minimalist pieces from affordable clothing stores such as If you would like to get extra deals then be sure to follow them on Instagram or sign up for their newsletter on their website. Also, if you enjoy shopping at thrift stores but would like to ensure that you will have access to pieces that are currently in style from familiar stores such as Forever21, then Plato's Closet is your place to be! I personally love Plato's Closet and have scored pieces that were half the price it would be in regular stores (if not less).

Prepped for Fall

Hey Fashloves!

First off I want to say Happy November! I hope the month is going well for you all so far and that you are enjoying the gorgeous Fall weather (I'm living through you guys!). So let me tell you guys right quick about this Florida weather. While the entire country is basking in their 70 degrees of goodness, us Floridians are still baking in the hot sun as if it's still Summer. I am so ready to be able to sport my cardigans, sweaters, and fur! Ugh. Until then, I still try to incorporate Fall pieces into my current wardrobe which leads me to todays post (hence the title).

So lets get into the details about my look for today. The skirt that I'm wearing is by far one of my favorite skirts this season. The color of the denim is perfect for Fall/transitioning out Summer outfits and I love the front button detailing along with the length. I picked this up from Charlotte Russe and got it for a great price which made my heart even more happy. I was also in a striped mood today (but didn't want to get engulfed in heat) so this cropped top from Forever21 was pretty appropriate. I draped the sweater across my shoulders, in a very preppy fashion I might add, because I simply couldn't wear it normally so I decided to make it the third piece in my look. The H&M boots are one of my favorite pairs of shoes and I paired it with black comfy socks to give the look a more Fall vibe. Although black & white looks are slowly becoming my thing, I had to add a little pop of print through my sunnies.

Fashtip: Want to try mixing prints but you're a little weary about the idea? Don't be! You can subtly mix prints as I did by doing it through your accessories. Start off with prints that have been known to complement each other (such as cheetah print and stripes) and when you become comfortable be sure to explore others.

I am so ready for the temperatures to drop (not too low now) in Florida so I could dive into all of the looks that I've really been in the mood to wear. Hopefully by December there is a break through and I could provide you guys with the content. Hopefully you guys enjoyed this quick post and let me know which Fall trends are your favorite for this season!

Trend Alert: Mules

1. Neiman Marcus / 2. DailyLook / 3. Mimco / 4. Nordstrom Rack

Hey Fashloves,

So as I was creating my Must Haves for this season (if you are subscribed to the Style Files then you've seen it) I automatically knew that Mules were going to make the top of the list. Mules were definitely trending this past Summer and once I got my hands on a pair my life legit felt complete (dramatic, I know). Not only are they so effortless but they are also very comfortable. The mules I'm sporting are from Forever21 and were at an affordable price of 25 bucks. As much as I need to begin indulging in more colors in my shoe collection, I decided to choose the black pair because it makes my life super easy when choosing looks for the day.

Thinking about purchasing mules but not sure which looks to pair them with? If you are heading to a dressy affair choose mules similar to number 2 & 4. You can wear them with trousers, a blouse, and a longline coat or blazer draped on your shoulders. If you looking to wear a casual look for the day then the look above is perfect with mules 1 & 2. Another option is an button down T shirt dress paired with a fedora/floppy hat.

Below you'll find a simple look I put together paired with my mules. I had a few errands to run & was assisting my fianc√© with a photography gig he had that day. In my very Fashilluminous-esque fashion I went in a monochromatic direction paired with a deep lip. Let me know your thoughts on mules and whether or not you think you could see them in your wardrobe!
